Thein is a Staff Officer at the Forest Research Institute in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Myanmar. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Forestry at the University of Forestry in Myanmar, and continued on to receive his M.Sc. in Forest Management at Kyushu University in Japan. Thein has spent several years working for the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry in Myanmar as a Range Officer, where he aided in the preparation of work plans, taking action on illegal logging, and patrolling protected forests. Now Thein acts as a Staff Officer for MONREC where he is responsible for supervising the research camp and conducting research activities- particularly under the forest management and silviculture units.
